Just installed my Windtura 750. Wind is only about 8mph but enough to see AC voltage across 2 of the phases. But one phase is dead. Voltage across phases: 1 and 3 = 12VAC 1 and 2 = 0VAC 2 and 3 = 0VAC So phase 2 is dead? Issue with slip ring or PMA?
Hard to say. With the unit stopped you can use an ohmmeter between any 2 wires and it should read just a few ohms. I'd suspect a connection problem rather than a device problem.
My cheapo harbor frieght voltmeter isn't measureing resistance for some reason. I will have to troubleshoot this next time I'm at the site in a month.
My guess is that there is a loose wire/bad connection somewhere in your wiring. When I don't read an output on something, that is usually the problem. If you think there is a problem with the turbine, e-mail us at info@windynation.com and we will take care of it. PS -- In my opinion, those Harbor Freight voltmeters are worthless for accurate measurements. They are only useful for ballpark measurements. I have compared some of them to my Fluke meters and their DC voltage readings have been off by as much as 10%!
Was at the cabin site this weekend. Ohmed every thing out with a better meter, still a dead phase. Checked all connections, and removed the turbine. The slip ring has a dead leg. I should have ohmed it out before installing it to avoid puting it up in the first place.
