Over 70 bags of concrete now and extreme rigidness fromm the ubolted steel legs..They furl and I am ready for winter...except all the charge controlles out there cant handle my amps..we run with the big boys :) ..I guess manual switch over for grid down times..up to 5 22-60 gts for the bank now :)..My son put the peace sign in,,better than the last on my wife put "tori"{victoria} loves jason..are we in effin high school??? still love her always though [IMG]

Does anyone know if the GTs are not feeding and the turbine starts to freewheel will this fry them still??

Please answer, I am tired of posting on this site with no remarks,I can talk to myself at home :p

    Hey Blue,
I forget what GT's you are using? Are you using the ones with the dumploads.? Like the Sun G's i use?

I use the sun-g 600w 22 to 60 volt Leamy. They do not have a dump load but I am just concerned about grid down time and if they will fry from overvoltage even if not drawing juice?...I am not sure but will have a nice analog volt meter coming but I have never seen over 50 volts out of the pma. I have exploded many of those 30v digitals and never wanted to use the higher volt one because they all needed a different power source and didnt see the need to drain a battery constantly just for a meter....
With the furling tails ands how beefy I have made the towers. I really dont have any concerns now except of the grid going down and frying my whole bank of GT's. I do like the idea of just wiring in the 60 amp breaker for each turbine that can be flipped to allow that turbine to feed my dump bank and lights wired up.I dont care about the automation side of it as long as my gts will be safe during the time gap of changing electric paths..

i do wish they had the voltage reg chips that were like the push in amp fuse and good easily be replaced instead of having to solder them in. I fixed a 12-28 as I blew 2 of them because I still went over the 28 even with 2(@ the time) 22-60 also wired in.. After that I gave up trying to build that style of bank. I have had a few times this summer that 17-20 volts was the norm and it sucks not feeding anything to be used by the house.

Number two up and flying, shorter tower to not dirty up the air in front of the second tower...Balanced all blades with a hanging digital scale and added weight as needed.spins with little effort..gonna have to do the same to the other as it wobbels like a out of balanced tire.I see now why the higher wind start up speed is needed for non balanced.

8.9 mph winds are showing 90-100 watts :p....Work begins on the next base and all 3 legs will have extra pipes and wires...The tallest one yet is being born soon..40ft.Getting more comfortable up there and not to mention I have professional tower guys for buddies:)...I have already had 3 people here wanting a quote to build. Not sure if I want to go there yet...Had 60 mile per hour winds and everything is fine...

Did you see SUN-G has made us a big daddy unit..
    2500w gridtie!!!!!

See its not even a grid tie but a normal inverter,I figured someone would point that out,but I never get any conversation so its fruitless....

I'll reply. I looked at that auction and it's not clear if those Sun G's are wind rated? Are you using "battery clamping"?

Not anymore and I have used 22-60'sv for over a year Have 5 now for 3 turbines and one dedicated circuit for feeding into the grid. Never seen more that 6 amps out of the GT's{125+ volts and 6 amps}.I have never seen over 50 volts out of the windy 500 I am doing observations for a while..I wired up each turbine to a 3x larger heat bank and a 60 amp breaker to flip them...

Ok here is my solution to low wind production...i have seen many days now that are 6-10 mph winds wich is almost a everyday norm for me so I have to be able turn that into something...It has to be spinning in brisk wind gusts of 8-10 to get a bump of input from the 22v gt's so I will safeguard the new 10v GT's By wiring them into a 60 amp breaker..During low and normal winds they will feed almost constantly. when high winds come I will be able to throw the switch and cut voltage off to the low end GT bank..

I soldered a new volt reg chip into one of my supras and it works fine but the other had to much solder and were touching all legs..I took the dremel and tried to clean up so there wasnt contact but chewed up the board.Into the trash, nothing like wasting money.I do not like soldering and am not very good at it....

I need to make a paypal donation button for all the learning I give away at my cost :(

Don't know if you are getting any private responses but our testing for the past year showed good results in using the Sun 250 10.8-30 up front of either a Sun 500 or 1000 (22-60) The 250 hands over the higher voltage with no issues ( yet) and allows the 22-60 to take over. The 250 just shuts down and goes into Volt overload . ( no clamping this method)
Hey, if you donate to my testing I will pay into yours !
Been busy, putting up some 42-45 ft towers and up to 2 kw turbines.

Just bought a sun-g 300..So they can overvolt and not blow the voltage reg chip to pieces? The ensupras actually shattered...I still will wire all low volt GT's to a breaker to let all the 22-60s pull every watt out...thanks Murray its been awhile :) I am starting to dig for the 3rd tower this week .Woo hoo!..I got to say though Mur either you have kept your failures tight lipped or you have had a pretty smooth sail with turbines...It seems like I am always having a problem but it always seem to show more insight and how to do it for the long haul..

Ah have had my share of shaking my head too Jason. Mostly purchasing the wrong items and having to go back to zero & start again. Have fried a few items but not as many as some I know ! lol
My towers have gone pretty good for me but because most of my land base is rock I have had to drill for anchors. So lots of guy wires taking up a fair amount if space BUT I don't have to have shares in a cement company and nothing toppling over
    ( yet)
This is a busy time of the year starting land training for our sled dogs, so they are my boss right now. Really appreciate the photo you shared.
    Take care Mur

    Hey Blue FYI,
That is not a GTI it is a reg power inverter.Man i wish they would come out with a GTI like that.
    Thanks f:)or the post

 I know leamy,I figured that out after I posted it but I left it up all day..I was just proving that @ times I wonder why I even post here..I hardly ever get any conversation..I have learned alot from you guys but it has been so quiet around here lately..
