Just a suggestion. Sounds like the relay may be stuck closed on the dump load control.
Have you tried looking into that? That is very fixable.

  2. Just not quite sure where it is located. I'll see if I can trace it back from the dump load terminals. That would be great if that is what it is. Thanks

I officially have revoked my membership from the "sun-g" team as I have lost my last overvolt dead inverter..EXTREME winds here and the 2 500's had straight line winds that ground them over 60 volts while filling a 48v battery bank also.Always worked before but this is rolling freight train wind right now.I heard the explosion of the cap upstairs..

I had to shut the big one down until I get a metal add on to the tail to get more furling from it..

At least these powerjack 50v's just disconnect and doesnt blow anything..seen steady 150+ volts in them while the brake slowed them for a few seconds..

I have about $600 worth of 10v and the 22v sun-g's inverters that dont work even with new caps, what a waste of money, never again just like when the revelation of the "delcos hit me"...

Damn Blue you do have KILLER winds man. Sorry to hear the Sun G's did not work out.
Will you be using the Power Jacks from now on at a 50v start up?

Not for the 500's,,they need a 24v voltage range to be efficient..I cant lose anymore equipment leamy,,,I want to rewire all my solar next year to run in the 80v range..

I dont get why the sun-g's would be made to not disconnect and have some sort of overvolt protection.thats alot of money to hear explode damn it...

I had to steal the solar gt's to run a 4 gt bank to get the volts kept locked into place but that does cut down on the max output

Send me your busted GTIs. I'll find them a good home.

Or be a good guy M and tell me if you know where they can be shipped to and fixed cheaper than replacing(as I will not replace at cost)

I can suggest a guy that may help you. Ebay seller name usinggodsfreeenergy.

Sorry to hear that BlueJay. I made it this latest wind event so far. I know I should not say that. Cause I still may have some 50+ winds coming the next 24 hrs.

I just fixed 5 of the 300s, BlueJay. Ship them to me. If I can't fix them, no charge. If I can, I keep them. Fair enough? :D

  12. Hi Tom, these winds are dangerous. Just went thru them last night for the 2nd night. Now have two Sun inverters down. They are 22 volt 500 GTI's. They will produce wattage O.K. as long as you don't have the dump load hooked up to them. When you do it's like the brake is on. Any clue where a guy can get them fixed? Beware of your coming winds, mine was over 65+.

I have a separate controller hooked to 900 watts of resistors. The GTI dump terminals are not hooked up to anything to keep the relays from melting. Also my dump kicks in at 28 volts which I hardly ever see at this location. Had up to 40 mph wind gusts yesterday and everything is still OK here.

What did you have to do to fix them?

If he told us that ,,he couldnt keep them ;)

It varies. In almost all cases 1 or more of the mosfets are bad at a minimum.

  17. Well now that I have 2 of my 22-60 500 watt GTI's F___ up with voltage all the time to the dump terminals is there a relay that I could hookup to the terminals that would send the voltage to the dump load at 60 volts and shut off below 60 volts? Need this for overvolt protection. GTI works fine as long as the dump load is not hooked up. If so what is it and where can I get it. Thanks guys.

Last wind event my 10.8-30 volt GTI fan started making noise and barely running. Not even a year old yet. Had to pull the fan and oil the bushing under the sticker. Ball bearing fans would be alot better. Will have to upgrade later.
Good thing I was home for it. Being it was running every 20 mins or so.
Talk to leamy about your needs. He should be able to help.

  19. Leamy, got any ideas about my inverter needs?

Maybe built this one. All simulated.

Parts are cheap. Relay is $7. The Mosfet you can get at Radio Shack. Zener is 51V and will have to be ordered. Don't skimp on the watt ratings on the 2 resistors. FET does not need a heatsink.

The caveat is the relay is an automotive type rated to 28Vdc contact voltage. I was not able to find one rated at ~60V that also supported high DC current. This relay is oversized on the current (70A) vs what you might need (~20A), so let's hope that will extend contact life.
