    Hello,
I have a motor out of a treadmill that's 1.75 hp 15 amps and it's rated for 4800 rpm and 90 volts. Would this motor work? I put a volt meter on it and spun the motor with my had and got almost 5 volts. The motor is made by a company called Cambridge Motors.

Any help would be a great help for a new guy!
    Thanks in advance !
    John

Ok..I think i may have found the answer on a previous post. Volts/RPM and if I do this calculation I get 0.01875. From what I can tell thats too low, correct me if I'm wrong.
    Thanks
    John

    I'm no expert...but I think you're right...the ratio is to low.

Thankyou for your reply(s) and help. Good information on the link as well. So at 0.01875 I would need to at least double the ratio? , and how would I do that? I realize these may be some silly questions but I'd like to get my feet wet so I can better understand it.
    Thanks again.
    John.

Well, if you are good at building stuff, you can make a 3:1 or 2:1 pulley. You need to buy two pulleys and a belt.

Or you could get an old bicycle for free hack everything off except for the chain and sprockets. Mount the motor shaft to the small sprocket and the blades on the big sprocket. I have never done this but it just came to my mind. I do not see why it would not work.

ive got a question i was looking at a similar motor, low ratio but say i put it on a trailer behind an 84V electric motorcycle at 50-60mph wouldnt it generate enough power to charge my batts while the motor is running?so far its been impossible for me to try and figure what the rpm would be at that speed though.i could be totaly wrong about it tho,any insight?thx.

just reread my post, sounded kinda perpetual motion/something for nothing-ish, what i had ment was charge my batts that are on the trailer(second batt bank)while driving so when low they could be switched over and others allowed to charge
