I bought the superamp mill about two yeras ago and have been building a tower off and on sense then . Tower is 55' to center of turbine and I'm about ready to tilt it up . I think I down loaded the manual on my old laptop that died and now I can't get to it . went to wn site to down an other and 404 not found . it's been very windy here the last several days and I have to wait for a calm day. ....... But I need to know if I should turn the brake on in real high winds or let it run . I have #10 wire from turbine into the house 450 amp hr. battery bank 530 watts of solar on a homemade tracker . Any way to brake or not brake in wind over 35 or 40 MPH. ? operating instructions .
I get a 404 erro as well. I'll see if I can find some info. Perhaps someone else running this turbine has a copy of the manual they can access. You should brake or furl any turbine in high winds to avoid damage.
Thanks that would be good ..... so should I brake it or just let it furl ? .... and if I do have the brake on is there a chance high wind could spin it and burn it out ? would it be better to let it run and furl in 45+mph. wind ?
I'm unfamiliar with this turbine usually a turbine either has the furling ability or a break. I would think doing both would be best but maybe someone from Windy Nation will chime in to confirm. They may also have a updated link to the manual.
Thanks Tuicemen I would think all turbines should have a brake mode for maintenance purposes if nothing else . I just finished wiring in two on the J-box at the base of my tower one is a toggle switch and the other is a twist lock plug . It never hurts to have redundant back up just in case . I will also have another at the battery bank right before the rectifier . I just need to know whether or not to let it fly in high winds . ... Thanks again
Hello, The link from the SuperAmp is indeed broken and thanks for bringing this to our attention. The installation manual is located here: https://www.windynation.com/cm/Windtura_750_Owners_Manual.pdf
Ok Thanks Windnation FAQ .... I just read Overspeed protection in high winds . so I should just let it fly even in a storm ?
I do . I bought the complete kit from y'all . so should I let it run even if theirs a storm coming or should I switch brake on before the storm gets here ? Also can I go ahead and tilt it up in place guy it and leave all 3 wires shorted together while I finish digging ditch and burying cable from tower base to house as it is laying across my back yard in the way ? .... Thanks....
You should brake it when a high wind storm is due as an increased safety factor Yes, you can brake it, while you service the system
