I have been in the motor business for 30+ years. Help me understand what makes the perfect motor to use as a generator. 1) What is typical blade speed? Of course it varies by wind speed and probably blade size. Is there any industry charts? 2) Is there a speed range wind generators operate over. Example if 7 mph is your target speed, is 3 - 9 mph the typical range? 3) Why not use a shunt motor and vary the field to regulate the back EMF. You loose effeciency at target speed but could gain it over a range. This is one of the reasons golf carts use them. 4) Why go thru all the effort to build one of these and then use a non optimized old used motor. 5) Is there any charts comparing blade size to the power that can be generated. Z" = x speed @ Y power, etc... 6) has anyone experimented with using a brushless PM motor. Of course you need a drive 7) are there any kits out there with the perfect motor (generator) Enough questions for now Motor Guy
