my turbine is still at my place of work so its not powering my cave.i am running on battery power tho.i have a cheep APC battery backup im using to see what the deal is .it's being charged with a 120 battery charger.APC has software you can monitor the system.with my TV/1 60WATT bulb/my desktop and sound system running at the same time the software says im using 192 WATTS.thats really all im wanting to run off my turbine when i get it home.
when i get it home i have 8 Trogan T-605 batteries and a Tristar 45 controller and a water heart element for dump (i doubt it will ever have to kick in)
simple set up for a simple cave.:)
one question..my genny is set up for 24V but im battery wired for a 12V system....should i rewire for 12 or leave it at 24? thanks

    Hi Paul,
I would leave your bank at 12v and charge with a 24v turbine. I do this with 10-30v GTI and batteries. I get outstanding results esspicilally at low winds. At the 12v mark your turbine should hit that volatge in lower wind speeds then trying to hit the 24 v mark. High winds are always a given.
    I Hope this helps :D

it flew all day in gusty 10-20 MPH winds...what a let down.lol i learned today that when i doubled the volts the amps cut in half.
tomorrow its gonna blow even better in the afternoon.gives me time to rewire down to a 12 volt PMA and see those results.
heres something my mechanical mind doesnt grasp.yesterday i took the genny off the rooftop and set it in the shop then placed 2 big fans in front.don sure the MPH but at 24 volt wiring i had no readings.slepped it down to 12 volt notta.wired it to 48 and presto the meters was showing life..OK i said ...im on to something.back up top she went.spent 4 lonely hours watching/waiting for the big 10 amp reading.never happened in 6MPH wind...today its gusting to 25...i'm all bigheaded thinking im gonna see AMPS...huhuhu...3 amps in an 8 MPH gust.
ever hear your genny talk to you...oh yeah they talk.mine never stops telling my "Paul..you old man...i want to please...but you must get me off this sand pile..get me up there where i can breath"

Mine has been talking to me for the past 24 HRS. Kept me up late last night. It also let me know that it does have a rpm limit even before 50 mph wind. It also does not like it when it has to turn at high rpm. Brings new meaning to shake rattle and roll. Lets just say imagine spinning in 30 mph + wind and turning 90 degrees to the wind. Real hard on blades they work more like paddle brakes.

true Tom..i seen mine take a sharp left and just cringe and damn near stall then like a lady lay right back and take another shot of wind love.:)

Also with just the 22-60 volt Grid Tie is makes just about as much howling noise as the capacitors did.

I've been thinking about using a 24 volt P.M.A.to charge my 12 volt bank allso. What i'm wondering, is my divert load going to handle the extra load if it dumps at high speed for any lenght of time.We had real high winds Sunday and saw 10-15 amps but never seemed to get over 13 volts,I want more power to run the 11-28 volt grid tie.

Mike im NO wind guru so all i can say is from what i understand the batteries control the volt reading..IF your meter is hooked to the bat side of the rectifiers.hook the meter to the genny side and you'll see the real volt output.ive seen 47 volts on my unit in 10 MPH gusts.if i disconect the load it goes insane to the point i have to short the wires and stop it.just to darn scary as it just keeps running faster and faster.im not willing to take a chance and cook this old Whisper 1000.and for the wind your talking about...i'd give my X wife for some that wind.
