This is a picture of my home wind turbine system. On the left (1 )Wind Blue 540 pma with 9 raptor baldes which I am replacing the whole turbine soon, (1) 1000w Wind Max in the middle, and (1) 500w Wind Max on the right with nine raptor blades but putting back the original blades that came with it. Just an experiment. Wind Max wins again. Once my GTI inverters have been matched I wll then start to consider a bigger blade set up for the 500 Wind Max and the new one I will be getting. Not sure what type on that yet. I currently can produce power at 6MPH at 10-12watts up to about 30MPH at 940w. This is where I am currently at with the GTI inverter combination I have for my birds. FOR NOW.

2 side of the house pole mounts and 1 roof mount. I am using (2) Sun G GTI 500w 10-30v at the currrent moment with a 24v battery clamping until my other 1000w 22-60v inverters arrive. I use the batteries right only now to keep the voltage down and jack the amps. You will see this in the data. These readings were taken 1-21-11 thru 1-22-11 all under 30MPH wind speeds. My winds were coming from the N nand NW. The NW has some trees I have not lowered yet but I have lowered some for the N winds.
The data was from a wattsview monitoring system. GREAT MONITORING SYSTEM. All tied into my control system.

I also have a 4th turbine in my back yard as well. Not much room for stuff where I live. Unfortunaly another 540 PMA. I have it so, i use it just for the winter winds. This one is pretty funny but it does work. It has the windy 28" blades on it 25 ft up.
Thought you guy's might enjoy this one.TREE MOUNTED??lol. The support pole does go all the way to the ground.

I know I can get more out of my system once I am done tweaking a little more. I am proposing about 1,500-1,800w All said and done all under 30MPH with consentrating on a realistic more common winds of 6-14MPH. After this it is on to more solar!!
Hope you guy's enjoy

Glad to see some WattVIEW charts. Now you can really see what is going on.

Larry,
I can tell by some of your postings that your work is first class .I like the fact that you are using different wind generators and have a very good monitoring system to see what each one does. People can’t say that you don’t believe in what you do for a living. I only wish your house was bigger, more windmills! I think its my red neck nature but I like the tree mounted one the best. Nice Job! Mark

Thank you for the kind words. In this posting I wanted to not only show you guy's what my system looks like but also show that micro wind power can be used in a suburban residential area. Installing wind and solar is great combination for renewable energy provided you have the practicle resources. My site gets wind about every 3-4 days all through the year in 1-3 day runs.
My roof also provides a very good resource for solar production.

Here are some pictures of some of the blades I am using and will be using.IMG-20110118-00012.jpg[/attachment:1xcmc175]
These are for my Wind 500w and they are 4.9ft dia. air foil design
This unit starts up in 4MPH winds and produces at 6MPH winds. Upon testing it seems
The windy PMA and the Wind max are pretty close in power production and start up.
Both very good units. My 1000w Wind max has 5.9 dia.blades identical to the these.

Pottsgrove-20110118-00021.jpg[/attachment:1xcmc175]
These blades are 7" ft in dia. and will be installed on my 500w Wind max.
I am looking for more power in lower winds.

IMG-20110118-00018.jpg[/attachment:1xcmc175]
I am hoping to caputre more tourque with the new blades.

9 blade hub.jpg[/attachment:1xcmc175]
I though these blades were my answer at on time but they are not the answer at all.
They are for high RPM PMA. High RPM PMA'S are not pratcile for wind turbines. If you have a high RPM PMA time to get a Windy PMA.
Got any apples you wanna slice up?

We also use two solar power attic fans for venting our attic
Thanks Guy's

Love it Leamy, very top notch...Do you notice that them 9 black blades hum very loudly in high winds? My 11 blade hub with the same did and I could see how they would ruffle the neighbors feathers

leamywind1 WindyNation Engineer

Thanks Blue. Yes you can hear them but only in high winds. They are not that loud to cause any problems and the times for high wind are so rare it is not a problem. They can only be heard above 30MPH+. More of a fluttering sound. I have had no complaints from any of my neighbors. I have asked them if they can hear anything inside their homes sand they said no. We really do not hear them in our home either in a high wind situation. If so my wife would have made me take them down along me ago.lol. We can hear the roof mount just a little bit but it has to be very high winds (30+) and the house has to be dead quite and even then it is no way a problem.
The ones on the side of my home, we have no idea when they are runnng.
:D
Thanks

Yeah, I'm inspired. I'm gonna be watching this place for a while. I used to work in Pottstown in the mid 70's. Do they still make "Mrs' Smiths" pies down there? It was about a block off main street.

Are you downtown or up on the hill?

Hii Andy,
Nice to see a local on here. I am in Lower Pottsgrove. Right outside of the actual town. No more Mrs. Smith's Pies. It is now a townhouse community. Thanks for reaching out. :D

How many watts does that AC Contactor with the AUX Contact draw? I am thinking it is on 24x7, right?

14. leamywind1

leamywind1 WindyNation Engineer

Yes it is on all the time and it draws about 7 watts. It cost about $5/yr to run. Plus is adds extra security if the island protection fails in the inverters. Small price to pay for security. No way that will break the bank.
Hope this helps

From an efficiency point of view - I do not think I will use that contactor with a single 5' Wind Turbine setup because the contactor would consume almost 33% of the KWH's produced by the Wind Turbine.

Just thinking out loud... a Latching Relay ?
A Latching Relay does not use any power while ON, hence saving 61,320 Watt-Hours per year.

So you bust my balls just because I make fun of you wasting your time even flying a 25 watt delco..ooooomaybe a hundred in 25mph winds  ... I flew one for a year and half and EARNED tose bustin ball rights

Wow very nice setup you have there! I'm just starting out and powering my wireless ip camera in my deer hunting blind... gonna add a solar panel to it this summer and after I practice having the coolest deer blind I may just move forward and start trying to get my house meter to turn backwards! Thanks for sharing!

I have added a Windy Nation PMA to my site. I have made it out of using turbines that have not worked for me regarding the PMA. I am very happy with the 750. For the main construction i am using (5) 80" blades, a MWS hub for the PMA mount, a Wind Blue frame. The tail boom is 4ft long and has an 1 1/4" rigid pipe attcthed to the main frame for back weight with a 2" PVC pipe slved over it for a finished look. I hope this gives someone an idea if they have just pruchased the WN PMA.
