Maximum sch.40 tower height

  1. What would be the recommended max. tower height using 2" sch.40 pipe and 3/16 7x19 guyed cable every ten feet? I am currently at 35' and it seems real sturdy, was thinking about going up another 10 or maybe even 20 more feet.

Need to know what kind of turbine you will be supporting on top of tower. Weight of unit and Diameter of blades.

  3. It will be the WN750 with 3 blade windgrabbers.

I think you should be fine. You should put 1 set of guy wires 20 feet up and a second set of guy wires 40 feet up. Then you could put 3-4 feet of Schedule 80 above that for mounting the Windtura 750 and this would give you a 40 foot+ tower.

  5. How would you raise a 40 foot pipe tower?

With a gin pole and a winch:

Scroll down toward the middle of the the page in the link above and there are some hand drawn pictures of "Wards 40 ft tilt-up tower". They show some nice sketches of how the gin pole works as a lever arm.

If you do not have a winch, call all your neighbors over for a barbecue and play a game called "Let's see how many people can grab this rope and pull on it"
