Golf Cart motors

    Will golf cart motors work? they come in 24,36,48 & 72 volts

    Do you have more information on them. You would need to post there rpm rating and amp rating along with the voltage rating. Also, are they PM motors. They probably are.

    My guess is that they probably will not work because they most likely operate at high rpms.

    Golf Cart motors are "shunt" motors. Instead of a permanent magnet field they have a wound field. This wound field must be powered (excited) and in doing so it creates a magnetic field that apposes the armature. The negative is usually efficiency as well as the requirement to power the field. The positive is you can vary the field strength and thus vary the generated voltage (when used as a generator).
