Charge controller gives my inverter a ground fault

Discussion in 'Charge Controllers' started by Two Track, Aug 29, 2012.

  1. I have my inverter hooked up to my reliance transfer switch works good but when I hook my new c 60 charge controller it truns on red fault light and kills it if I take off negative cable from charge controller it works. Wondering If any one has an idea to fix or change my system around. I tried two wire and three both did same thing.

    Moved from another thread

Going to post pics of my system in the moring

Are they both hooked to a battery?

  3. Yes both hooked to same battery, when I take off ground side on charge controller inverter works. It would be nice to leave both hooked up if possiable.

Tell you what it was great feeling last night was first time I ran my kitchen and living room lights which are the ones most used off my system. Clean free power thats what I been trying for over a year what a great feeling. Driving me to want to grow my system.

15.5 volts is the max it can handle. So check battery voltage when you hook up the charge controller. If it is too much then add more batteries.
If not then try a diode from positive of charge controller before it goes to the battery.

  6. Ok I ck battery at 11 volts , how do I know which Diode to order 40 or 75 ?

  7. Wait my bad ck it with the controller on and running got it.

So I take all is working now?

  9. Nope it still won't work with the charge controller hooked up ck the volts and it was right on 12 volts. So going to order the diode and try that. Also going to order one of your solar panels seems to take along time to charge my battery so more power is needed. I hope the diode fixs it cause it's not fun unhooking everything when I want to use the green power

I suggested the diode just in case it is trying to back feed and messing things up.

  12. Update I believe I wired it up wrong after reading some other treads. I have both wind and solar going to PV input on charge controller, From what I read I need to separate them and put wind directly to battery bank and solar only to charge controller. Maybe that is the causing my problem. I was trying to use breakers to run all power I make to charge controller or all power to grid tie when my battery Is full. Going to rethink how to get that done with what I have. I am a newbie to all this so learning as I go !!!!

  13. Well have everything working good now. Going to post pics when I get my new panel added.
