From failure comes understanding, from understanding comes success. Hang in there Sparky (or is it Smokey?) :)
TomT - a video on how to change those would be cool.
Is this the smallest board size they allow? Good experience.
What establishes the 2V hysteresis?
Do you guys think preventing the 10-30 from activating until 16V or so is of any benefit, or is it very windspeed dependant? Perhaps Tom can make...
Josh and Tom - the overvolt/divert port is obviously a cheap and dirty way for SUN to get into the wind GTI world without a major redesign. It's...
Here's a good video on how to heatsink a MOSFET. (or similar part) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ruFVmxf0zs
Larry - yes. I was exploring the idea of disconnecting the AC but that leaves the 10-30 divert MOSFETs open to see the turbine voltage. If these...
The IRF3710 has a junction-to-ambient rise of 62 degrees C per watt and has a max junction temp of 175C before it dies. A proper heatsink is...
FETs that are switching at 60Hz (like in the case of a GTI) have more losses vs those sitting there ON. If we assume 80% efficiency, running at...
The MOSFETs are just there to channel the power to the divert load, not to dissipate it. If you look at the other main spec on a FET, it is the ON...
Either of those FETS will work, Tom, but heat sink them well. They obviously try to use best-value parts but these sometimes prove to be...
If you're running it with just 5 ohms then it likely exceeded the MOSFET voltage rating. 100 amps x 60 v seems impossible don't you think?
Some analysis on the divert port on the 1000G. [media]
I assumed basically linear; on the 24V 60rpm=7.4v and 150rpm =24v, so (24-7.4) = 16.6V over a 90rpm range so that is 5.42 revs/volt.
